Real Random

Soo I'm finally caught up on the week of sleep I missed during finals. Yes, it took me ten days haha. But, It seems that chellywellzshop somehow found my post and directed her viewers here! So a big shouout to her because the amount of viewers went up by like 200 in a day!!  So thanks to all those that have been reading the blog and there are plenty more posts to come. Happy Holidays and I hope you all have a good New Year.

Real Talent: Chellywellzshop

So I was on surfing through videos on youtube about hair, makeup and things of that nature when I came across one that I could sit through for more than the 30 seconds my attention span alloted for your average youtube video. Chellywellzshop run by college student Chelsey W. discusses dealing with ways in which to wear natural hair (in both natural and unnatural ways-->weave), fashion on a budget and a plethora of beauty tips for the twenty something year old African-American woman. I also like the fact that she is a college student (like myself...pops collar, air-five-->the whole nine) and doing something on the side to display things the average college student may not be up on . Her niche seems to be hair and she gives excellent tips on what products to use for different textures of black hair. From snooping around (yeah Im something of a youtube fanaticc) I have come to discover that she is very responsive to her youtube subscribers/watchers  and tries her best to answer all questions given her schedule. So I do urge you to check out her page www.youtube.com/chellywellzshop. I've also posted a couple of her videos below for your viewing pleasure!!
Sidenote :She may not find this funny if she ever reads this, but I think her dancing/lipsinging in the beginning of her videos is HILARIOUS

Real Fab: Rihanna

Now you know at times I feel some type of way towards Rihanna, but I have to admit that I enjoy her presence when she is toned down and not trying so hard (good song btw Rih-Rih) to be different. Check Rih out in a Fall 2009 Alexander Vauthier Couture Dress complete with the  dramatic shoulders that seem to be all the rage this season (I can't believe I just said "all the rage" #whatIlooklike ). I actually love this softer side to Rihanna and would prefer to see it more often.

Shoutout theybf for the photo:

Real Fab: Zoe Saldana

This chick has stepped her fashion game up in the past year or so. She had always been cute, but with her look at the  London premiere for her new movie Avatar she had risen above Gorgeous. Zoe is wearing a gown from RM by Roland Mouret. Alright, I see you Zoe. (okay seriously now back to sudying for finals)

Real Talent

This almost makes me depressed while at the same time inspires me to step my finance game up. While some of us are are always crying broke and nearing 21. This young man is buying up shares of the Nike Corporation while his voice cracks. Check out the video of this 14yr old well on his way to becoming a millionaire. I give major props to his mother for learning from her mistakes and making sure her son did not do the same (applause) She deserves an award (cue Kanye West impromptu entrance)...(back to studying for finals #killme)

*Shouts out to Bossip for video

Real Random: Young Money and Timbaland

Check out some new videos below...Timbo and Drake came out with a video for my JAM!! Say Something. I think this was a much needed collaboration and both artists put in work on this track...."Its funny how someone's else's success brings pain"--> So True. Young Money also came out with their video for BedRock...finally introducing everyone who was signed to Young Money. I don't know about you, but I was confused about who was really in Young Money. (It seemed like Weezy was signing everyone and their mother at one point ::cough Bow wow, Omarion::)

Real Funny

Now I love me some Beyonce, but when I saw this video I just had to post it. This is in no offense to Mrs. Knowles-Carter because she is one of the hardest working singers in the industry, but you've got to admit at times Sasha Fierce is a little to much. The fact that someone took the time to analyze the "I am...Yours" show and come up with this list makes me laugh even harder. Check the video below...

Sidenote: Shoutout to Bossip for the video.

Real Fake: Angel Lola Love

So I guess to keep her name relevant in the game, angel lola love aka lola monroe became a rapper. I though that to become a rapper you at least had to be able to spit a hot 16 or SOMETHING. It's also evident she is trying to bite off Nikki Minaj's rapping style with the accent and what not. Lola Monroe gets a #sityourfakeassdown (yes I used a twitter tag) for this one. Stick to doing what you do best. If you guys don't remember what that is..here's a reminder...

Real Talent: Justin Bieber

I have fallen head over heels with his young man's voice. The fact that he is the cutest 15 year old ever doesn't hurt either. Canada native Justin Bieber started out uploading his videos on youtube so his family could watch him sing. However, he ended up catching the eye of more than just family. In a short while, he became a youtube sensation garnering attention from Usher and Justine Timberlake. While they were both offering him Record Deals, Justin went with Ursher. The soulful singer has already released two singles and has teeny boppers crying all over the states (I know some college girls stalking his life too...and NO I"m not one of them ::looking around::) Check out some of his homemade videos and his first single One Less Lonely Girl Below. (Look at him moving like usher in his video..SO CUTE)

Real Talk: Why do Men Cheat?

So I"m STILL trying to figure out this whole Tiger Woods story. Did his wife Elin really go "Jazmine Sullivan" on his behind when she heard of his affair(s). I feel that this whole ordeal is going to be in the Top Ten Scandals of 2009 come New Years. Besides that Tiger Woods has it all. He is the top paid athlete in the world and (seems) to have the perfect married life. Sooo What went wrong Tiger? I was gonna let this whole issue go (because what people really need to be focusing on is why more troops are going to Afghanistan) but this topic has fathered numerous trending topics on twitter (#whymencheat #whywomencheat) to which I had to respond. Why do men cheat? Using Tiger Woods as an example lets analyze (what women do best anyways..) Elin recently had a child in February of this year. Was Elin looking a little out of shape?....being that Tiger is a top athlete he must get women throwing themselves at him everyday. So Tiger goes for the freebees...(crowd booing) Elin is also raising 2 children (The couple had a daughter back in 2007). So maybe sex wasn't always number 1 on the agenda. Lo Siento Tigre but while you traveling the world, you're wife has to hold it down at home. Okay, so Tiger slips up and cheat, but Why in the world are numerous women coming out of the woodworks here? Yeah Tiger you've been putting in work and shelling out a lot of money to keep these women's mouths shut to which I say NO. You get a #Fail in my book. There are an infinite amount of reasons as to why men cheat. I just feel like if you're not ready to be in a realtionship or feeling crammed while in one get out! I would rather have a man break up with me and go "do him" than to cheat on me and act like everything is all good. One thing men clearly do not understand yet is that you CANNOT have you cake and eat it too. Therefore this side chick mess has to go. I thought that went out of style with baggy jeans and jersey dresses.

Sidenote: Since when is Ellen spelled Elin...I"m just saying

Real Fab: Drake

So I guess Drake decided to get on his "grown and sexy" status to finish out 2009. No more jeans and gray cardigans for him because on two occasions he decided to whip out a suit and I must the young money rapper looked quite dapper. Drake showed up at the GQ Men of the Year Awards wearing a Gray Tailored Suit and Nicki Minaj (aka Nicki Lewinsky bka Nicki "the Harajuku Barbie"..and the list continues) on his arm. At the 2009 American Music Awards, Drake went with the "all black everything" theme, sans a tie, but still looking like he stepped off the cover of GQ. Alright, I see you Drake.

Real Thoughts: "No Homo"

Seriously, When did the popularity of this phrase come about because I can't remember. Hmm...maybe it was when those picture of wayne and birdman making out appeared and every dude felt like questioning their sexuality after one of the hardest nig**s out there was shown kissing another man, which in turn leads to the subdued but well-known fact that homo-eroticism is prevalent in today's male hip hop culture. Because really if you're so straight(yess you -->homophobic rappers) why would you rap about having sex with a girl and then passing her on to your ace boon coon while you chill and watch only for her to be passed back to you. What is really turning you on? Let's not even get started on the mass amounts of questionable lyrics in rap on which whole books could be written on (which they probably have ). If I name all of them this post will go one forever. But check out an article I found at cracked.com which has a good list of random unintentionally homo lyrics and interpretations on them(http://www.cracked.com/article_16158_11-most-unintentionally-gay-rap-lyrics-ever.html). Speaking of which (actually not really, I just didn't have a good segway), dudes what you you think you're doing with your pants sagging low...basically just showing off your assets just like females in pum pum shorts. If you think only girls are looking you're DEAD wrong.! Basically, I look at it like this. If you are truly comfortable with your sexuality guys is there really any reason to say "no homo" after each statement (that could possibly be taken the wrong way) you make? No!! Just throw a "thats what she said" on it and move on...haha no but really its becoming a little tiring hearing it all the time..if you're straight, you're straight. It doesn't have to be proved to anyone (unless you walk with a mean switch and have legs better than Naomi Campbell...then you may have some explaining to do lol). Hmm anywhoo I'm over the issue right about...........Now!

Real or Fake: Nicki Minaj

Lately there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the first lady of young money Nicki Minaj. First featured on one of the many remixes to Lil Wayne's lollipop, she has gradually gained a fan base and made a name for herself with the animated performances, exotic looks, and raw flow. I'm not even gonna lie at first I thought she was another overtly sexual female rapper with a huge butt (which many people are saying is fake but idk). However, upon listening to some of her music, she has some crazy lines and her songs definitely have a continuing theme of women empowerment. Her songs have personally grown on me and I find myself attracted to her intonation, accents, and flow (no homo...lol...sidenote: don't you hate when dudes say that? If your comfortable with your sexuality is that really necessary??...ugh that's a whole other post lmao) Nicki Minaj definitely represented for the female MCs or lack thereof at the BET Hip Hop Awards Cipher, which had several people questioning their dislike for her. I think her songs are kinda catchy and honestly that's all you need to be successful in the industry these days. But check out her cipher and some other songs below. Also check her website Nickiminajfans.com

Real Sexy: Trey Songz Invented Sex

So I've watched this video 456453643 times since it premiered yesterday. My mouth has been wide open every time. There isn't much else I can say about it. Check it out for yourself..be sure to have a napkin handy to wipe the drool of your chin.

Real Talent

The Music industry has definitely changed. You know this when an artist can have a number one song without having released an album (ahem drake and kid cudi). Everyone has been all on Drake, Kid Cudi, and Wale whom I must admit are bringing a different atmosphere to the rap game. However, a friend introduced me to another rapper on the come-up. Also featured on Jay-Z 's Blueprint 3 album, J.Cole is a little more underground but slowly gaining popularity with his real lyrics. Upon really listening to his music his songs are a lot more than the frequent f-bombs and n-word usage. His messages are pretty deep. Let me also point out that he graduated from St. John's University magna cum laude (magna cum whaaat....Yes!!! laude the highest honor you can receive upon graduating. Yess we love educated black men!). But Check out a couple of his songs below.

Real Funny

Now I do not condone violence, but when I have been involved in a potentially violent situation, I learned early on that you want to be fighting with an Asian, not against them. With that being said, I also learned in numerous occasions never to underestimate them. They may have a petite stature, but they pack a mean right hook (loooong story). This lady obviously did not get the same memo and learns the hard way that you can talk alll the talk you want to, but if there is nothing to back it up you are destined for failure or a nice beatdown in this case. Watch the video below: hilarity. (Ugh Ignore the first 21 seconds)

Real Talent

When I was introduced to this girl, I did not understand why I hadn't seen her dancing in music videos with the best of them. Luam is an ammmaaazing dancer who has become a popular YouTube sensation but still seems to be underrated in the industry... well at least to me she is because I think she needs to "Uh-Oh-ing" next to Beyonce (even though Luam is very original with her moves and we all know where Beyonce took her moves from -_-). Luam has an interesting life story being that she graduated from UPenn (yes! Ivy League) with a major in Biological Bases of Behavior(confused?? yeah me too because she was about to get paid especially because the economy was good back then !!), but her first passion was dance and that is what she decided to pursue. I believe she now gives dance classes at the Broadway Dance Center in New York's Theater District (but don't quote me on that). However, don't think you can just waltz into her class unannounced, (actually maybe you can as long as you pay the fee)her students include numerous contestants from So You Think You Can Dance as well as Bad Boy reality TV couple Dawn (from the former Danity Kane) and Que from (Day 26). Anyways check out some of my favorite dance numbers from her below:

Check the Rest of her Videos out on Youtube.com/Luamworld and also hit up her website luam.net

Real Fab

The BET Hip Hop awards were taped last night. While there were some decent looks on the red carpet, I believe this chick showed how the real baddest b**ches do it. Trina, who looked fab in a white blouse, Narcisco Rodgriguez skirt and black studded boots, has come a long way from her "You don't know Nan" days.

Real Talent

If you forgot what real singing was due to the auto-tune foolishness that is considered music. Here is a vague reminder.
Yes! Remember her? That is Miss Brandy Norwood singing acapella in her bathroom with no makeup on and half the the words to the song. Yet she still manages to sound ten times better than a large chunk of singers today who call themselves talented. This video has been in heavy rotation all over the internet with celebs raving about Brandy's voice. This chick is twirling around with such perfect notes effortlessly flowing out of her mouth, that I never even noticed she didn't know the words (but maybe that's because I don't know the words to Somewhere over the Rainbow either). I guess Brandy decided to show all thesenewbies how a veteran in the game does it and has been doing it for so long.

Sidenote: Ignore the horrible formatting. My blogspot is playing games today.

Real Talk: Good Hair

I am sooo excited for Chris Rock's documentary, Good Hair!! I feel that women everywhere of all ethnicities needed to be enlightened about what the definition of good hair is. I personally have tried to delete the term "good hair" from my vocabulary because of its sterotypical connotation. My hair was always healthy because my mom didn't allow me to get a perm until the age of 13. When I finally joined the club of the "creamy crack addicts" people used to always say,"You have that good hair, are you mixed?" Afterwards, I always used to wonder, "Why do I have to be mixed to have good hair?" Growing up, "good hair" in the black community has always been defined as straight, thick, versatile, and easy to maintain. This type of hair was commonly found among women who claimed different ethnicities in addiction to being African- American. Those who lacked the genes of Asian, Indian, Spanish and/or White races (like mwa) chose to get perms for various reasons(for me it was mainly for the easy maintenance because my mom was tired of spending countless hours combing out the knots in my hair). Women without perms were almost looked down upon for rocking their hair in the natural state. Although, many women (such as I) still get perms, I notice that rocking the natural state of hair has returned in full force (like skinny jeans and plaid). Now I feel as if the script has been flipped and natural is the way to be right now. I would love to get my hair back to its natural state, but that's a lot of work I"m not even willing to do right now. Basically I feel that there is no such thing as "good hair" because good hair is healthy hair whether its long, short, thick or thin. If you like the way your hair looks be it weave, wig, perm, braids or natural than rock it as if you were Sasha Fierce herself (whom I usually see myself as after a nice wash and set with a little curling of the ends). I definitely give props to Chris Rock for shedding light on such a touchy subject with women in general. At least now white people can get the answers to what they have been wondering for years about black hair but simply been too afraid to ask. Anyways check out the trailer for Chris Rock's Good Hair, which hits select theaters October 9th and will be open nationwide October 23.

Real Fab

Some people say she's overrated. Some say she has no personality. Some even say she has gone as far as lying about her age. I can't quell the controversy over the endless rumors that surround this star's life, but I know one thing's for sure. She is the OG of baddest chick in the game. Before the Amber Rose's of the industry made their presence known, there was Beyonce. She was spotted in a pastel Malandrino resort 2010 dress at Billboard's First Annual Women in Music Event, receiving her 324354350 award for Woman of the Year. Seriously though Beyonce does her thing and you really can't be mad at that, plus Get Me Bodied is the hottest song (ehh more like ONE of...and yeah I took it back to B'Day) in the history of my life.

Real Funny

After being introduced to this video by Chelsey Wilkins (happy?), I could not get over the ridiculousness of this hilarity. I was speechless upon first witnessing it. It is a thirteen minute video, however, with my (self diagnosed) ADD I got restless around 10:03 . Around 1:50 the Jamaican accent kicks in and continues sparingly throughout the video only increasing the level of comedy beyond any type of measurement. Check the snaps and smacks in Timaya's video What in the Hell is This is My Head!? below. Also check out his youtube page; youtube.com/timaya for more rants and raves about random things in life.

Real Words

I don't know about you but I love a deep spoken word piece. It doesn't even have to hit close to home, but the fact that I can feel the artist's emotion within every syllable that is spoken gets my heart racing. My cousin introduced me to this poet's work a while back and I was floored. What furthered proceeded to cause the spontaneous combustion of the left side of my brain was the fact that his words were as powerful on paper as they would be in a performance. Check out UPenn's Joshua Bennett at the end of this clip of HBO's documentary Brave New Voices.

Also check out his poem Tamara's Opus in its entirety below
(It's the best one in terms of sound that I could find)

Real Fab

So last night the MOBO awards went down in Glasgow, Scotland. So it just occurred to me what MOBO stands for (well not really occurred... it was more so someone informing me) which is Music of Black Origin. The awards were founded in '95 to recognize artists of any race or nationality performing black music. There were some fab looks on the red carpet, but my favorite had to be Miss Keri Hilson. She was rocking a satin red Dolce and Gabbana bell-shaped dress with some sparkly black heels. A "Get it Girl" at her finest.

Real Talent

Don't get me wrong. I love Rihanna's style and swagger, but take away the animal print overlay and designer shoes and you've got a normal girl who was simply in the right place at the right time. It's easy to take a girl with potential and give her a new identity. However, the same cannot be said for certain extremely gifted artists such as V.V. Brown. The British born artist is definitely some one to watch out for in 2009, with her mesh of metro pop, indie punk, and soul. Check out an acoustic of her song Shark in the Water below

Definition of Real

(n.) No less than what is stated; worthy of the name

I don't need semi-real or sometimes real or real 56.7% of the time. I need 100% 24/7 real....Why? because I feel life is too short to deal with fakeness...point blank. I guess that's why I started this blog. Some people consider it being blunt or too honest, but that's only because they can't handle the actuality of life's situations. What is this blog about? The general aspects of reality from a black woman's perspective. Men, Music, Fashion, News...It's all real talk in real times.

"Fantasy is what people want but reality is what they need. And I've just retired from the fantasy part"-Lauryn Hill
